Storyboard

After the feedback form the last ideas sheets i have decided to continue with the idea of a morphing Butterfly to bee image. The task is to create a storyboard of the idea using 8 frames. I know i want to have the first and final images next to each other or on top of each other to show a start and an end. The other 6 frames i think will be smaller and will follow through the morphing stages. The layout might be nice in some sort of circular pattern to show the process.

My Birthday

Work handed in today and i thought it went well and my ideas where liked. Now have to do two new A3 sheets for tomorrow which might not be the best as I am meant to be going out later wiht Kim and family, but a for the sheets they need to be more illustrative and graphical so that they do not need to be explained or have lots of text on them. I will create one sheet with a simple but easy to understand sequence of images showing the transformation into a bee from a butterfly. I will also include a small flick book. The second A3 sheet is to show my ideas for explaining an idea in just 2 images relating to the sheets on how moment to moment and scene to scene etc. For this i will try and show a scene to scene of the butterfly to bee and the typographical response for the names.

Float Like a Butterfly Sting Like a Bee

For my Ideas sheet i have been working on the concept of having a butterfly morphing into a bee to show the famous quote about Muhammad Ali's boxing style. I have also looked at the idea of a morphing view of is face, the changing face of a champion would show his face changing through time form Olympic champion to Heavyweight champion to the present day. My final idea was to in some way show the change from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali in some sort of typographical way.

Cassius Clay

I picked Cassius Clay from the list of famous prsonallities from the 60s partly because i knew a little about him but i also thought he would be an interesting person to research. Most people know him as Muhammad Ali rather than his birth name of Cassius Clay.

He won a Gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games and after turning proffesional he became the Heavyweight champion of the world in 1964 ater fighting Sonny Listen. One of the mst noticable things about him is the fact that he chaged his name, he did this after converting to the Nation of Islam. He was for a time called Cassius X after joining the Nation of islam, the use of the x to replace the surname was a symbol of there ancestors enslavement. Shortly aftr this he became a Sunni Muslim and Changed his name to Muhammad Ali which is the name most people know him by.

He was banned from boxiing for a time after refusing to fight in a war as it went against his religous beliefs. After being granted a boxing liecense in Georgia he began his fightback to regain his title after it being stripped form him during his ban.

Group Presentation Done!

After a week of work we finally did our group presentation in front of everyone, i thought it went quite well. The video worked as planned and everyone seemed to enjoy it especially our dancing at the end.

I enjoyed working with Lloyd, Lucy, Jess, Kieron, John and Jo on the project, we all got along well and got a lot do in the time we had. Lloyd did a great job editing all the video and we all got the parts we needed to make the full video.

oh and we won!!

Group Presentaion

today i found out yesterday we where put into groups according to our decade and where given the task of creating a 6 minute presentation to be shown in the lecture theatre. So far I think that the 60s group is good and seems to work quite well together. As a group we have decided that we will each have different tasks to do so that we can get everything done in time. A video seems to be the way in which we are going at the moment.

The 1960s

I was given the 1960s to research over the self directed study week with the final outcome being to A3 sheets to make a short presentation on. I decided to research posters from the 1960s as I am interested in this type of work. I thought the best place to start was the library, so i went and managed to find a couple of annuals of 1960s posters. From looking through the annuals i found that most of the posters from the 60s where made up of block colours and the figures tended to all be done in a similar style. Next i decided to look at some of the most famous posters from the 60s which included the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games poster, the Beatles series by Robert Avedon, and quite a few film poster such as the first bond film Dr No.

Films from the 60s used poster as there main advertising method, many films had a series of posters created to promote it.

I also looked at the 60s part of the psychedelic movement and artists such as Wes Wilson who created some of the most interesting posters of the 60s. The "Blowin in the mind" Bob Dylan poster by Martin Sharp is one of my personal favourites.
